A longtime staple of both Butte County agriculture as well as our Rancho, our Walnuts are our most prominent perennial crop and occupy 750 total acres of our land. One always knows when one is nearing the Ranch when barreling down Ord Ferry Road because of the enormous black walnuts lining the long drive to the farm’s historic heart-center of old barns, the mess hall and dormitories that once serviced 100 laborers a day, and the well.
We grow our walnuts and sell them to handlers around the state. Our trees benefit from their proximity to the Sacramento River. We’ve been known to harvest their bright green husks early in the summer season to make our Nocino, an Italian walnut-based liqueur, for our festivities in front of a large bonfire at HQ.8369 Hugh Baber Lane, Chico, CA 95928
